Explaining The Course
It is a Pay-As-You-Play Golf Course.
Waterford Valley is a par 72, spanning 6545 meters in length, located just 30 minutes from the CBD. The layout was designed by the owner, Gary Thompson, and golf course architect Phil Ryan to comply with "championship requirements." Incidentally, it was Phil Ryan's first fully compliant championship design. Since then, he has designed and built more than 40 courses throughout Asia.
The criteria to be met were that a 15-handicapper, with no wind and playing off the blue tees, should be able to achieve 36 points. With wide drive landing zones and large greens, the course allows golfers to reach the greens in regulation, letting them feel good about their golf game, albeit requiring a strong short game to shoot a par round.
The course caters to both high and low handicappers, as well as senior golfers, with 5 tee boxes: black tees, blue tees, white tees, yellow tees, and red tees for the girls. It's interesting to note that off the Black Tees, the Slope Rating is 6 shots harder than the Blue Tees. The bent grass greens are some of the best in Melbourne, and the fairways are like carpet. However, it can certainly be a strong test of golf with 11 lakes, wetlands, and 63 bunkers to navigate.
The course offers a full fleet of motorized carts, a well-stocked pro shop, and a licensed café with a great range of lunchtime snacks. Function facilities are also available.
Open seven days a week, the venue proudly welcomes local and traveling players, offering an efficient and enjoyable experience.
